Darryl E. Bullock, 73, of Middletown, CT, beloved husband of Melissa (Petrie) Bullock passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday May 2, 2026. He was born in Queens, NY, son of the late Richard and Pearl (Hobson) Bullock. Darryl was a veteran serving as a Commander with the US Navy. He earned his PHD in Political Science at City University New York. Darryl held several positions at Mercy University, Dobbs Ferry NY., including Registrar and Director of Institutional Research and Planning, as well as his proudest role of Cross-Country Coach for over 30 years. Continuing his love of education, he served in the Office of Development for St. Catherine's Academy, Bronx, New York, and upon moving to Middletown CT, served as Principal of John Paul II school and later as a Civics teacher and Mock Trial Coach at Mercy High School. He was a familiar and joyful presence at countless Mercy events, often with a camera in hand to capture precious memories. Darryl took delight in cheering on Mercy students at Cross Country and Track meets as well as Soccer and Basketball games. His commitment to the Mercy community also extended to his years as an Associate of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
Darryl is survived by his wife and dance partner of 23 years Melissa of Middletown CT, his sister Tyese Anderson of Virginia, his Niece Crysta Burgess of CA, his Sister in Law, Jennifer Petrie of East Hartford, father-in-law Richard Petrie his Niece Mallory DeRoche-Merlino and her husband Lee Merlino of Boston, his Grand Nephew Katriel Greer of Las Vegas. He was predeceased by his sister Dawn Burgess of San Diego, his beloved Aunt Anna and Uncle Harry Bullock of Asbury Park, mother-in-law Lanette Petrie (wife of Richard) and dearest friend Neil Judge whom we assume to be driving their golf cart and showing him around.
