Obituary

Dane Castor, 67, of Middlefield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 21, 1959, in Sidney, New York, son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Smith) Castor.

Dane proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a plant manager at Feldspar Quarry in Middletown, mail carrier at the North Branford Post Office, and a machinist at REF Machine Co. in Middlefield. Dane will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who adored his family and the time they shared together.

Dane is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Castor of Middlefield; a daughter, Megan Castor of Middlefield; a grandson, Jude Castor of Middlefield; brother, Darrell Castor and his wife Debbie of East Haddam; sisters, Dawn Castor of Guilford and Darlene Ravid of North Haven; and many nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Elizabeth Castor, and his brothers, David and Darren Castor.

Dane will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will cherish the memories they made with him. He was an expert trout fisherman, skilled gardener/canner, and avid Yankees baseball fan. Dane also enjoyed watching movies, listening to country music, collecting golf balls, and appreciating old fashioned meals and sweets. His humor and storytelling will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Dane’s greatest achievement was having a grandson who will miss him deeply but will remember his Grandpa as funny, loving, playful, and entertaining.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Friends may gather prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will take place at the State Veterans' Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane Middletown after services.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Dane's memory to a charity of the family's choice: American Cancer Society. To share memories or express condolences online, please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com.
