Cynthia Elaine (Twiss) Kaufman, 81, of Middletown, passed away on Friday May 29, 2026 in the comfort of her home. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lawrence Kaufman in 2015. Cynthia was proud of his service as a US Army Sergeant in the Korean War.

Cynthia was born and raised in Meriden, daughter of Robert W. Twiss and Janet (Swenson) Twiss. She was fondly known as Candi by her family. Cynthia graduated from Maloney High School in 1962. She valued hard work and was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from the Wilcox College of Nursing in 1965. Cynthia raised her family in Cromwell CT and was a dedicated nurse for 47 years. She was committed to helping those in need. She devoted her life to her family and nursing. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she loved so deeply, and the countless patients and colleagues who were fortunate to know her.

Above all else, Cynthia treasured her family. She was a loving, nurturing, and selfless mother. Grammy Cindy was a proud and supportive grandma whose greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren celebrating their accomplishments. They meant the world to her.

Cynthia spent 20 years in Phoenix, Arizona with her late husband, Larry Kaufman. Cindy and Larry enjoyed exploring new places together and creating memories that she cherished. She often referred to the ‘great adventure’ when they traveled across the country to move from Connecticut to Arizona with their furry friends. She was an animal lover her whole life, and her pets were beloved to her.

Cynthia is survived by her sons Jon and wife Lynn Rochette of Colchester, and Mark and wife Rachel Rochette of Berlin; and her stepdaughter, Jeanne Kaufman of Woodbury, CT. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren: Pamela and husband Christopher Luisi, Adam Rochette, Makayla and husband Mark Szilagyi (Olivia, Matthew), Katie Rochette, and Abbie Rochette. Additionally, she is survived by her brother, Robert W. Twiss and his wife Brenda of Florida. She was predeceased by her daughters Valerie and Dawn.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on June 16 at Bethany Covenant Church, 785 Mill St., Berlin. Burial will be at the State Veterans’ Cemetery, Middletown at noon.
