Charlotte Groves Fortune

August 16, 1959 to August 25, 2022

Charlotte Groves Fortune, 63, of Saint Petersburg, Florida and East Haddam, Connecticut passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 25, 2022 after a seven-year battle with cancer.

Charlotte was born at Fort Hood, Texas, as the first of two daughters of Richard Newland Groves and Margaret (Barnhill) Groves.  She was a 1982 graduate of San Diego State University where she earned a California teaching credential.  Thereafter she managed the equipment leasing operation at Navco Security Systems in Anaheim, California.  Charlotte moved to Avon, Connecticut in 2002 where she taught knitting classes and worked in human resources for Cardinal Health.  While raising two daughters and supporting their sports activities, Charlotte also became an avid tennis player and skier, improved her golf handicap, and made many, many friends for life.  Apart from sports, Charlotte enjoyed food and wine, entertaining, and travel.  She was always happiest enjoying life with her family and friends.

Charlotte is survived by her loving daughters: Lauren Berman and her husband Eric Berman of Hermosa Beach, CA, and Rebecca Clark of Chicago, Illinois;  and by her two granddaughters Riley Berman and Kira Berman of Hermosa Beach, CA, her sister, Kelly Gill of San Clemente, CA, her husband Charles Fortune of Saint Petersburg, FL and East Haddam, CT, her two step-daughters Emily Miller and her husband Lance Miller of Fayetteville, AR, and Maggie Garabed and her husband Justin Garabed of Natick, MA, and four nieces and nephews in California.  Charlotte also leaves behind a host of friends in Connecticut, Park City, Utah, St. Petersburg, FL, California, and everywhere else she ever went.

Memorial gatherings will be held for Charlotte on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the Fox Hopyard Golf Club in East Haddam and on Friday November 11, 2022 at 5:00 pm at the Deer Crest Club at the St. Regis in Park City, Utah.  Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Charlotte's honor may contribute to St. Jude Children's' Research Hospital through the following link:  http://giftfunds.stjude.org/CGFortune or Goodspeed Musicals, PO Box A, East Haddam, CT 06423-0281.
