Obituary

Carol Murdoch Matregrano, 86, of Haddam, wife of Richard "Dick" Matregrano, died peacefully at home with her family Saturday November 23, 2024, from pancreatic cancer. Middlesex Hospital Home Hospice and Smilow Cancer Center were instrumental in her care. She was a survivor of colon, breast and lung cancer.

Carol was born in Harrisburg, PA, the daughter of the late Ralph G. and Lois Newcomer Murdoch and was raised in Camp Hill, PA. She graduated from Allegheny College and Philadelphia Hospital, and was a medical technologist at Hartford Hospital and St. Francis Hospital for many years. Post her medical career she enjoyed her time and close relationships while working at Eddie Bauer.

In addition to her husband of 56 years, Carol is survived by her son Timothy, of Haddam, her son Eric and his wife Shaleen and two grandchildren, Brayden and Colette, of Bronxville, NY, and her niece Jacquelin Scarangella, of Danbury.

Carol's adventurous spirit and high energy led her to explore the world. Following her graduation, she embarked on a remarkable journey around the globe via freighter. With her husband, she cherished European riverboat cruises, Road Scholar trips, traveling South America, and visits with high school friends, creating memories she joyfully shared with others.

Carol's love for cooking has led to an abundance of family recipes. She was a very social person, who enjoyed playing bridge with friends and playing Mah-Jong at the Haddam Senior Center. She was an avid reader, and always had a knitting or needlepoint project underway.

Carol had a remarkable positive attitude and worked tirelessly for the community. For over 40 years she was a very engaged member of the HIgganum Congregational Church and was involved in numerous committees and activities. She was always generous, giving and eager to help. As a lover of dogs, she fostered twelve German Shepherd Fidelco Guide dog puppies over 30 years, raising them to fulfill their ultimate calling. And speaking of dogs… longtime and proud UCONN fan!

Funeral services and burial will be private. A memorial service to celebrate Carol's life will be held on Saturday (Dec. 14th) at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ Haddam and Higganum (Higganum location), 23 Parsonage Road, Higganum.
