Brother Thomas
F. Ryan C.F.X
Nov 25, 1948 — Sep 14, 2024
Middletown
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Brother Thomas Ryan, C.F.X., a beloved member of the Xavier faculty and a cherished presence in our community for more than 30 years. Brother Ryan passed away suddenly and unexpectedly this weekend, leaving behind a legacy that has touched the lives of countless students, faculty, and staff. He was born in Yonkers, NY, son of the late Thomas and Mildred (Kennedy) Ryan.
For over five decades, Brother Ryan dedicated his life to education and service, embodying the Xaverian values of humility, simplicity, trust, zeal, and compassion. His journey as a Xaverian Brother began in 1966, and from his early days as a student at Cardinal Hayes High School to his many years teaching and serving as an administrator at Xavier, St. John's High School, Shrewsbury, MA and St. Joseph Regional HS, Montvale, NJ, Brother Ryan's mission was always clear: to shape minds and hearts with love, care, and a quiet, enduring commitment to the students he so deeply cherished.
Whether organizing the next day's Civics lessons, overseeing substitute schedules, or serving as the master of ceremonies at Commencement, Brother Ryan's dedication was unwavering. He often spoke of the joy he found in teaching, especially the connection he shared with his students. Students, teachers, alumni, parents knew where to find brother Ryan when they needed something, and he always responded graciously. He saw the uniqueness in others and fostered it, bringing out the talents that students never realized they had.
Visitation will take place in the Xavier School Arthur M. Kohs Gymnasium on Sunday September 22, 2024 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Xavier High School's Arthur M. Kohs Gymnasium on Monday September 23, 2024 at 10 a.m. Burial will be the following day at the Brothers cemetery in Danvers, Massachusetts.
