Betty A Kindschi, 87, was peacefully called by God on Feb. 25, 2024 at home, surrounded by her caregiver and her loving family. She was born in Middletown Ct in 1937. In 1954 Betty was introduced to Ken, who was in town while on Navy military leave. Both Ken and Betty said they knew instantly that they had found their forever love. They married in 1955 and had their first son Kenneth in 1956. The couple moved to Middlefield in 1959, after having their second son Roger. They purchased a house on a quiet street with a cull de sac. Three years later they would have their daughter Lori. This beautiful home would serve the family for both Betty and Kens lifetime.

Betty ("Nana") lived out her lifetime dream of being able to raise children in a nice country setting. When asked about travel or material items, she would reply that she already has everything she had ever wished for. Betty's skills over the years became numerous. She was able to master anything she had set her mind to. One of her first ventures was sewing. She had hoped to be able to fix her children's damaged clothing and make some extra income for the family. Within a few years, she was making beautiful custom wedding dresses out of her home. Betty also made cakes for all occasions including intricate wedding cakes. If there were figures of a bride and groom on a cake ordered, she would paint the faces of the figures to look like the bride and groom. Betty was asked to fill in for a chef taking an extended leave at the St Pius rectory. Her cooking skills earned her the chef's job, cooking for about 12 brothers and the priests. She was a member of the 10 plus 1 ladies club for over 30 years. This was an organization that aided local charities. She was a member and Queen of Tops weight loss support group. She was a lifelong member of Saint Colemans church (Our Lady of Mercy Parish) and served on the Share and Care committee, the Choir, and Bingo.

Betty had some hobbies that included gardening and crafting. She loved participating in the Durham fair by entering her works into canning, baking, vegetables, sewing and flowers. She would grow all her own flowers for the arrangements in large gardens in the backyard. Her craft room housed a beautiful display of ribbons and awards she was so grateful to receive over the years. Easter was one of her favorite holidays and she celebrated each year by putting on an extensive easter egg hunt. She would hand make pinatas, sew a giant bunny costume, and bake food and treats for the 60 or so children that would participate. Her Halloween gatherings were also elaborate. Every trick-or-treater was invited in and there was food and drink for all. Her unconditional love for everyone never wavered.

Betty was predeceased by her mother and father (Ann and Louis Roybal), her brother (Bill Roybal), and her sister (Shirley Bauer). Surviving is her son Kenny Kindschi (Mary) of Middletown, Roger Kindschi (Cindy) of Killingworth, and Lori Bertrand (Mike) of Middlefield. She also is cherished by Grandchildren Alissa, Kelly, Danielle, Steven, Randy, Mike Jr, and great-grandchildren Aleah, Demmar ("Jr"), Carter, Hailey, Blake, Mike III ("Mj"), Beau, Booker, Charlotte, and Riley.

The Kindschi family will be forever grateful for Betty's live-in caregivers Mavis and Abena (Evelyn). These incredible souls lovingly attended to "Momma K" around the clock for the past 6 years. Bettys hopes of never having to leave the home that she loved, was made possible by a team effort by all, led by her daughter Lori.
