Barbara (Kowalski) Ford - Randlett died on February 7, 2026, after a valiant eight-month battle against soft tissue spindle cell sarcoma.

Born to Jean (Hawrylik) and Edward Kowalski, Barbara spent her entire life in Middlefield/Rockfall.

She grew up in a large extended family with many cousins and lifelong friends on both sides. Her childhood was characterized by large holiday parties and gatherings on the family farm.

She graduated from Coginchaug Regional High School in 1974 and earned two associate degrees from Middlesex Community College and Briarwood College.

After working at Happy Acres, Lyman Orchards, and around town in her teenage years, she began her post-graduate professional life working as a medical assistant for Dr. James K. Yue in Middletown. She then worked for Travelers Insurance before moving to human resources and risk administration for the Bob's Stores corporate office. As Bob's grew, she remained with the company after it was purchased by TJX Companies, Eastern Mountain Sports, and then Sports Direct. She retired in 2020 and volunteered for the Middlefield Community Center and the Durham Fair Association.

She was married to James Ford (1981-1994) with whom she had one son, Ryan Ford, and to Howard Randlett from 2010 until his death in 2025.  She became close to his two adult children and their families, Andrea Randlett (John) and Jason Randlett (Gretchen).

Barbara never found an insurance or finance question that she didn't like solving. She was an avid reader and inveterate runner. She could be seen running in Middlefield each morning for almost 50 years. She frequently walked with friends and her family dogs. She loved music like Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac and to laugh with her friends. She was thoughtful, loyal, and had a good sense of humor.

She is predeceased by her parents Jean and Edward and her husband Howard Randlett. She is survived by her son Ryan, brother Bill and sister-in-law Aggie, and nieces, nephews, and a great-nephew as well as countless cousins, family, and friends. She is deeply missed by them all.

On Friday, May 15, there will be a Celebration of Life at 10:00 am at the United Churches of Durham (228 Main Street, Durham) with a reception to follow.
