Anthony F. LaMalfa, 62, of Portland, beloved husband of Patricia (McGonagle) LaMalfa, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by the love of his wife and children.

Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Anthony and Theresa (Bankowski) LaMalfa. Tony graduated from Xavier High School, Class of 1982, and later earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph College in Maine, where he and Patti met and began life together. They made their home in Portland, building a life rooted in faith, family, and shared memories. Their kitchen was the heart of that home, always open and always full. Spending their time surrounded by children and grandchildren. Tony and Patti found their greatest joy simply in being together.

Tony was the proud owner of A. LaMalfa Painting and Restoration, where for decades he built not only a successful business, but also lifelong relationships founded on honesty, craftsmanship, and pride in every project he completed. Tony was always there without hesitation, offering a helping hand before you even had to ask.

Six years ago, Tony joyfully became “Pa,” a role he embraced with his whole heart. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Nothing made him happier than having them gathered around his table, enjoying his famous “Pa’s Sauce” and filling the room with laughter. They loved lawnmower rides that ended with popsicles on the porch and happy dance parties with Grandma.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by his children, Nicholas LaMalfa (Catherine) of Newington and their children, Emelia, Graham, and Adeline; Adina Baldarelli (Michael) of Wallingford and their children, Michael, Gianna, and Aria; Marissa LaMalfa of Rocky Hill; and Sean LaMalfa of Portland. He is also survived by his siblings, Ann Marie Landers of Cromwell, John LaMalfa (Hillary) of Portland, and Michael LaMalfa (Lorraine) of Portland, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Tony grew up in a home where family always came first, a value he carried throughout his life. His loved ones will forever cherish the memories of Monday night dinners, making peppers together, summer days at Birch Point and Lake Winnipesaukee, and, most recently, taking his children and grandchildren to the Cape for Oysterfest Weekend.

Tony’s friend card was full. He treasured the friendships he built throughout his life and never passed up an opportunity to spend time with the people he loved. Whether it was annual alumni golf trips with his college buddies, Saturday lunches with the boys, grabbing a Miller Lite after work at Farrell’s and Jerry’s, a round of golf on a sunny afternoon, or making the trip to Pepe’s Pizza in New Haven, Tony valued every moment spent with those he cared about.

His life was defined not by the years he lived, but by the love he shared. 

His Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, July 6, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Freestone Avenue, Portland. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Portland. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 5, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Portland Food Bank in Tony’s honor.
