After a life that spanned nearly a century, our mother, Anne Keane, passed away quietly at home on February 19, 2026.

Anne was born Anne Hamer in Greenfield, MA in 1933 to her parents Stanley and Blanche. She grew up in Greenfield with her brother, Phillip, and lots of beloved relatives. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design, married illustrator Raymond Keane, and moved to New York where she gave birth to her first two children, Amy and Matthew. Then the Keane family moved to the woods in Connecticut, and Anne and Ray had four more children.

Anne Keane brought an artistic sense to everything she did. Her cooking and gardening were famous. Her taste in everything from her home to her wardrobe was exquisite, and reflected the artist that she always was. She was a devoted mother to her six children, and also lovingly cared for her cats (and many, many strays), her birds, and every wild animal that ever entered her yard. Anne adored all of her wonderful friends and her grandchildren, and they enriched her life. She spent her career working with patients at Connecticut's State Hospitals, where she brought her high standards and belief in the healing power of art and beauty. We are told that she was a legend among her colleagues there.

Anne will be missed forever by her surviving children, Amy Maguire, Nora Keane, and James Keane (Jennifer). She will never be forgotten by the grandchildren she loved, Danielle Keane (Justin), Rebecca Maguire, Brian Keane (Maria), Peter Maguire, Erin Keane (Patrick), Emily Keane, and Rowan Keane-Lombardo. She may not be remembered by her two great grandchildren, Lucas Keane and Wyatt Keane-Feise. They are only babies, but their existence brought her so much joy in her last year. Anne was predeceased by her ex-husband Raymond, her sons Matthew and John, and her daughter Molly. Anne suffered terrible grief in her life and maintained her strength and dignity. She kept our family together and continued to care for us until the end.
