Obituary

Angela Phyllis Leavitt, 77, of East Haddam, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 25, 1947 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT. Angela grew up in Meriden, Connecticut, and was a proud graduate of Platt High School in 1965. She started her family in Conway, NH and Berwick, ME before relocating to East Haddam, CT permanently in 1978.

Angela worked for many years at Go Fly a Kite in East Haddam, where she developed lifelong friendships and brought joy to those around her. She was known for her compassionate nature, never turning anyone away and always offering a helping hand. She happily retired in 2015.

Family was at the heart of Angela's life. She raised four boys teaching them core values of hard work, love, and loyalty. She was tough but fair and never missed a sporting event for her boys. Angela was the loving mother of John and his wife Cindy Leavitt of Manchester, CT; Jeff and his wife Gina Leavitt of Hebron, CT; Richard and his wife Emily Leavitt of Meriden, CT; and Dan and his wife Devon Leavitt of Columbia, CT. Angela was also a devoted stepmother to Deborah Ouellette of Berwick, ME. She adored her seven grandchildren: Lauren, Kayla, Maya, Tyler, Ryder, Jackson, and Malory. Angela was also a cherished aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Angela treasured the time spent with family, especially summers at Harvey's Lake, VT where her laughter and warmth brought everyone closer. She also enjoyed visiting her cousins on the weekends at Uncle Wes' as well as spending time with her close friends watching shows at Goodspeed Opera House. A lifelong lover of music, Angela found great joy in singing, especially as a member of the St. Bridget's Church choir for most of her adult life.

Her dedication to community was unwavering. She devoted countless hours volunteering at both St. Bridget's Church and the East Haddam Senior Center, where her kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Angela was the daughter of the late Sebastian Lastrina Sr. (1922–1984) and June (Atkinson) Lastrina Freeman (1922–2008). She was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Sebastian "Mike" Lastrina Jr. (June 3, 2023) and stepdaughter Sabrina (Howarth) Willis (December 2, 2015).

Angela's legacy of love, service, and joy lives on through her family and the many lives she touched. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her devotion to family and friends, and the passion she brought to every aspect of her life.
