Alice P. (Maher) Cram, 92, of Middletown, widow of the late Charles Cram, a former Middletown firefighter, died peacefully after a long illness at Portland Care and Rehabilitation Centre on Saturday July 12, 2025.
She was born in Portland on January 15, 1933, daughter of the late Wiliam and Estelle (Guzewicz) Maher. She attended St. Mary School and Portland High School. Following her marriage, Alice was a long-time resident of Middletown, a thirty-five-year employee of Northeast Utilities, and a lifetime member of their Association of Retired Employees. She was also a life member and past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Local Chapter #583, and a charter member of the Emblem Club #452 Middletown Chapter. Alice was a former member of AARP #3310 Chapter and an active member of the Church of St. John, most notably the St. John's Guild of Our Lady.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Mrs. Edward (Anna) Bajorek of Cromwell, Mrs. Armand (Estelle) Arsenault and Mrs. Katherine Dolores Jarzabek, both of Portland, her brother, William J. Maher, Jr. and his wife Hildegard of Weyers Cave, VA. Alice is survived by her sister, Miss Evelyn V. Maher of Portland, formerly of Middletown, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Portland Care and Rehabilitation Centre for their special care and kindness extended to Alice during her stay there.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday July 22nd from Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St. Middletown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in The Church of St. John in Middletown at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the State Veterans' Cemetery following the church service. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home on Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. Donations in Alice's memory may be sent to the Church of St. John, 19 St Johns Square, Middletown, CT 06457, the Church of St. Mary, 45 Freestone Ave., Portland, CT 06480 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
