Higganum

Obituary

Ronald Raymond Booth, 64, of Higganum died peacefully on Sunday (February 18, 2018) of brain cancer. He was born in Hartford on May 30, 1953 to the late Raymond and Vivian Booth.  He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth "Betsey", their four children and their families:  daughter Jennifer Hettrick and her husband Don of New Britain, daughter Susan Starr and her husband Andrew of East Berlin, daughter Karen Booth of West Hartford and her boyfriend Patrick Ahlberg, son David Booth and his wife Kerri of Berlin, and his beloved grandchildren (and biggest fan club), Gavin, Ryan and Callie Starr, Benjamin and Boden Hettrick, and Olivia and Julia Booth.  There was nothing more important to him than having his family close by and spending time with them daily.  He also leaves sisters Beverly Maselek and Debbie Boyaji, as well as seven nieces and nephews.

He grew up in Wethersfield and began working at Hall's Market in West Hartford at age 14 when his father bought the business from Franklin E. Hall. Ron and Betsey met working at the market in 1971, married in 1975, and owned and operated the market from 1981 to 2009, while raising their four children in West Hartford.  The family spent summers at Chalker Beach in Old Saybrook.  In 2009, Ron and Betsey retired as the third generation (Jennifer and David) took over the market.

He was a kind man, and a devoted, fun-loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend who will be profoundly missed. He was a member of Higganum Congregational Church, a great golfer, and an enthusiastic Patriots fan.  Never able to sit still, he spent countless hours maintaining his award-worthy lawn.  Ron would want you to do something kind for the other guy and be a good friend!  Take care of each other.

A memorial service to celebrate Ron's life will be held at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown on Thursday, February 22nd at 6:00 in the evening, preceded by calling hours from 3:00 to -6:00 p.m.
