Salvatore Russo, 78, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Water’s Edge HealthCare Center in Middletown.
Sal was born in Melilli, Sicily in 1934, the son of the late Sebastiano and Concettina ( Marino) Russo. In 1960, after serving in the Italian Army and rising to the ranks of Major Corporal ( an honor he was very proud of), he came to the United States where he decided to establish his home and raise his family. Throughout his life, he worked for several companies including Goodyear, International Silver, Rogers Manufacturing, and the State of Connecticut from which he retired in 1993.
Sal was an avid gardener and spent most of his free time tending to his garden and amazing tomato and pepper plants, plants he grew from seed every January. He also took great pride and pleasure in making his own wine as was the family tradition.
He is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Mary (Filingeri) Russo, his daughters, Tina Wnuk and Carm D’Amico; his sons-in-law, Michael Wnuk and Louis D’Amico,Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Michael Wnuk, Jr., Jennifer Wnuk, and Christina and Nicole D’Amico. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers Luigi, John and Joe and their wives Bianca, Mary, Cathy and Joanna, also many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Felice and Guiseppe Russo.
