U.S. Veteran

John R. Thomas, 91, of Middletown husband of the late Mary (Bennett) Thomas, died Friday at Middlesex Hospital. John was born in Middletown the son of the late Joshua and Josephine (Brady) Thomas. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps 338th Bombardment Squadron. Prior to his retirement John was employed with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft as General Forman of the Cost Estimation Department. John was a 60 year member and past master of the Saint John’s Lodge #2, a member of The Order of Eastern Star. He was a life member of the Valley of Hartford Shriners. A senior member at Valley of Norwich Consistory a 32 Degree Mason with and member of Cyrene Commandery #8 Knights’ Templar. John was also proud of his service as a Supernumerary officer for the Middletown Police Department in the 1950s’. He is survived by a daughter Janice Bauer and her husband Leonard of Middletown, a sister Ruth Anderson of Middletown and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Service will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. from Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Burial with military honors will be held in the State Veterans Cemetery.
